The Yippee Ki Yay, 4.3 fat tire is a great desert tire and single track tire. I have a Borealis Keystone E-bike and could not be happier with the traction of these tires, whether in a sandy wash or on AZ hard pack trails, they never let me down. No idea how they perform in snow, because I never want to be in snow again.
Size is perfect for the Salsa Beargrease which will not take a true 4.5” Grip has been fantastic in a variety of conditions and it is imperative that it can be studded here in the PNW!
Thought I might be able to share a little insight: Overall this is a great tire, and a unique option in that it is the only tire of its size, it has significantly more volume than the 4”inchers, while being significantly smaller than, say, a Cake Eater 4.5, and thus a good option to maximize volume in a 177mm bike. (It fits on mine with a 65mm rim, but not an 83mm one). It rolls faster than it looks like it should, and has the traction that it looks like it should! Mounted tubeless like a charm and the tread (and perhaps more importantly the sidewalls) are wearing well despite what appears to be a softer rubber compound, even with occasional pavement use.
One thing I really don’t like about it (particularly reverent to mixed use riders) is that the stud holes all get packed with the little bits of granite prevalent on my local trails. They never clear themselves and every one of them is full. I really wish they weren’t there, as I have no use for studs.
Running as a front tire. Excellent grip, supple and rolls fast. Highly recommended!
